Using the UM plugin with a custom theme

I’m developing a custom theme for a niche market, which will require the UM plugin to be installed alongside to provide some of the functionality.
I’d like my theme to programmatically set up many of the things a user does manually after installing the UM plugin.
- Creating roles – can be done using add_role().
- Creating custom fields.
- Creating a custom profile and registration page (using custom and built-in fields).
I’d appreciate thoughts on whether this is possible via code, and what hooks might be of help in achieving this.
