I’m setting up my site using the magazine basic theme. I’ve created a child theme. What I would like to accomplish on a few pages (at least on the home page) is a two column and three column appearance in the main content area. Basically have the same look as the example on the authors website bavotasan.com/magazine-basic

When viewing the example on the authors site, I can tell that this is using the three-col-wrapper class and two-col-wrapper class. However, I’m not sure the best way to implement these classes on the page. I tried including them inside a <div> (in the text editor) but the entire page layout got messed up. I may be overlooking something simple but would appreciate any help you all may have.
    Thanks!

I think I am getting it to start to work in a <div> however, how do you assign a post to show up on each side?
    Thanks!

Just adding this… the reason I would like to do this is for mobile devices. Currently I am trying to use column shortcodes to create two columns in the content. However, because the shortcode makes the column 50% width, when viewing the site on mobile devices the column becomes 50% of that screen which is really small. Maybe someone has a better way.
