    Hi
I asked a question a few weeks ago and before I could get my head around it all it was marked as resolved. My follow up question is here at the top with previous question and answer below. Thank you in anticipation of help – I’ll be quicker at reacting next time ??

Can you tell me what will happen if I get the free table rate shipping plugin ?

What I mean is, I’ve already got a shop up and running with different shipping methods/rates allocated to different products – having got the plugin, does it need ‘integrating/using’ straight away ? Do I have to set up the shipping settings again for each product using that or can I just use bits of it – ie for the minimum cart value for some products (some products will be enough on their own).

Sorry for the silly questions, but I don’t want to hit problems once I get started when I need the shop to be functioning still.

    Thanks.

    Previously :

    Hello.
The main thing is – I want to be able to set a minimum order value before checkout is allowed and, ideally, I would like to be able to set a different amount for each shipping method. I have some products that are sent by post and others that have to be a sent with a carrier (at a much higher cost). I don’t want to set a minimum order amount per product, because if people combine products they might then get to the required order value.
I have tried looking at plugins etc but I’m afraid I’m finding it too confusing and I don’t want to get one and find it doesn’t do what I want. Can you point me in the right direction to achieve what I want please ?
Also, I managed (2 years ago) to set my woocommerce shop up so that if someone ordered a postal item AND a carrier item then the higher shipping cost only is selected/allocated – I don’t know how I did it and I’m worried that in setting up a new plugin I might mess that up, so can you please tell me what needs to be done/boxes checked to achieve that.
    Thank you.

And the helpful reply that I didn’t follow up on at the time :

    Hey @annie63!

It sounds like the best option for the scenario you described would be to use shipping classes to differentiate between the products sent via post and carrier (which can be done with just 2 shipping classes named something like “Post” and “Carrier”), but the complexity of the situation is that there is some conditional logic needed based on whether orders contain products from one or both shipping classes and what the total order value is.

In my experience, the easiest way to set this up would be to use a ‘table rate’ shipping plugin. There are free plugins available here on .org, in addition to a premium version on WooCommerce.com and some other third party options.

Using table rates, you can create the conditional rules that look for products from one or both shipping classes, as well as the total cart value, and then offer the rate based on the conditions set (including only offering the higher cost if both types of products are purchased together, like the site you set up 2 years ago).

I’m most familiar with the plugin linked above, but if you purchase that version the support team can help you get it working as you specifically need (if you run into any issues). However, the documentation might be helpful if you go that route, similar to the use case described here.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi,

    thank you for your question.

You mention, that you already have shipping methods/rates. Are they provided directly in Woocommerce or are you using a different plugin to calculate these shipping methods maybe?

If you are using only Woocommerce – everything should be ok and provided rules should work fine.

    Best regards,

Thank you, yes, I’ve only used Woocommerce to set up the shop/shipping rates etc.

Will I have to set up the shipping settings again for each product using ‘table rate’ or can I just use bits of it – ie for the minimum cart value for only some products (some products will be enough on their own).

    Thank you.

    Thank you for your question.

    There are 2 options:

    1. If your Flat Rate settings contain only shipping cost – then you don’t have to rewrite any rules that you provided, you can use Flexible Shipping Free to set up rules based on total order cost or products total weight inside the cart (or always use this rule)

    2. If your Flat Rate settings contain shipping class rules – then you have to use Flexible Shipping Pro, which has more options of rules to set up – per item, per cart line item, and also per shipping classes. After activation of the Pro version, you should rewrite all set rules from Flat Rate to Flexible Shipping method and delete old Flate Rate methods from Woocommerce (to avoid some conflicts and repetitions).

I hope that I presented that in a clear way. If you have some more questions – feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

As we haven’t got any replies, I’m marking this topic as resolved for now.

    Kind regards,
