• Hey there, this is my first time posting here but I’ve spent the last few days pouring over forum posts to find my answer. I haven’t been able to figure this out so hopefully you can help!

    I have a WP install at website.org

I only want to host the images and uploads at images.website.org

So I go into the settings/media area and change “store uploads in this folder” to: images

and “full URL path to files” to: https://images.website.org

    as suggested here: https://www.techtipsgeek.com/host-images-wordpress-blog-subdomain-better-speed/6897/

However, when I go to upload an image nothing happens..the preview is blank. I’ll go and check the folder at images.website.org but see that nothing has been uploaded at all.

I’ve tried both the flash uploader and the html uploader, different folder names, different chmod values…but still no luck.

The tutorials mention nothing about editing the htaccess for getting it to work, just for google caching. I can post my htaccess code if it helps though.

    Thanks in advance!

Does images exist? Is it writable? Does the server have tmp directory space for the upload to happen into?

Yes all of the above..please note that website.org is not my actual web address. I have everything configured properly, the WP image uploader will simply not write to the new location. I get a blank upload with no error message and no actual upload of the image.

There is nothing to do with the .htaccess file to host your images at the subdomain. Confirm first that your subdomain is configured properly. You can do that from your hosting control panel or contact the hosting provider. If the sub domain configuration is okay then the permission of the subdomain(folder) should be 755. After that follow the exact guidelines at the topic how to host images at subdomain. This should work properly. Further questions are always welcome.
