Using square brackets in text without invoking shortcodes

  • I would like to use the square brackets in text but I don’t want to invoke a shortcode. I tried doing this with an email address in this manner: fullname [at] domain [dot] com, but when I published the page, something odd happened to my formatting. I tried fiddling with this and basically, everything went back to normal when I stopped using the square brackets. My best guess is that I invoked some sort of shortcode (although I haven’t defined any shortcodes in my theme, which seems weird). Is there an escape sequence or html entity that I can use to represent the open square bracket ( [ ) and the close square bracket ( ] ) in my site’s text?
