Using Smush gave lower Page Speed score

    I installed Smush and compressed all images. I tested the speed with Google Pagespeed Insight before and after I did this. Now the site received a lower score!
    It was 76 (comp) /21((mobile) and now it’s 54/12!
    I tried turning on and off the lazy loading and it didn’t make such a difference. If anything it was a drop higher score with lazy loading turned on.

    Thank you for contacting us.

    I have checked the report results in pagespeed and see there are a couple of assets that are render blocking and causing extra delay on load. These are from different plugins like Ultimate VC add on and Astra theme. Assets from Smush are not detected so the score, which is also specific to the algorithm of page speed is, is being determined by these render blocking assets not related to Smush.

    I would advise to use an optimization plugin to adjust these render blocking assets. One option that we also have is our plugin Hummingbird where you can use our Asset Optimization manual method for this: https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/hummingbird/#troubleshooting

    Thank you for your suggestions. However, you are not answering my question. As I previously explained last week my score was 76 (comp) /21((mobile). All I did was add your plugin and compress the images with the free version (hence not the originals, according to my understanding). Now the score is 54/12. This all happened on one day.

    Your suggestions may be wise but do not have to do with the change and the website was like that before.

    Please advise.

    Hey there @redelefant, thank you for following up.

    The job that Smush will do on your site is to reduce images, and this will not negatively impact other elements (like the ones affecting your score), so I think this was more of a coincidence when Smush was activated and images processed.

    After checking the report, I think that you could follow my colleague’s recommendation, a while WPBakery and Visual Composer are different products I think this guide can give you an idea on how to improve the speed using Smush and Hummingbird https://wpmudev.com/blog/optimize-wordpress-wpbakery-free-plugins/
