Using shortcode and getting nothing

I posted in a [resolved] thread about my problem. Guess I shouldn’t have done that!
So I’m using the generic short code that you put up and not getting anything in return:
[facebook=https://www.facebook.com/sydneyoperahouse raw=true]
No link, no code, nothing.
The site is built on Visual Composer. Could that be part of the problem? I tried using the code on its own page and still nothing.
Anything you think I could try?
