Using same page for website landing and shop landing

I have a brief where the homepage of a website is also essentially the WooCommerce shop landing page.

It will be a completely custom template (not using any of the existing contents of archive-product).

The problem is that as soon as I set the shop homepage value in WooCommerce the template breaks (I guess because it’s now being treated as an archive)

I just want to set this value so that people are redirected to the correct place. Is there a way to fix this or should I just leave the shop page somewhere else and redirect everything to the homepage)
