• Hi to all. I am a WordPress newbie and recently purchased a set of themes which are hosted by a third party. I have previously worked with DreamWeaver (so not a complete novice).

I have downloaded a plugin ‘User Access Manager’ (https://www.gm-alex.de/projects/wordpress/plugins/user-access-manager/).

I want to create a members area. I would create the user name and assign a password then advise the member to login. After login that member would have access to their page to view photographs. So user A logs in and can access Page A. User B logs in and can access Page B. User A cannot access Page B and user B cannot access Page A (hope that makes sense).

Now even though I have downloaded the plugin I have NO idea how to use it/them to create the members area. If I click ‘Edit’ on a plugin I can select various functions but I am no programmer ??

Can any of you celver people get me started.
    Kind Regards,
    Phil.

  • You don’t need to ‘Edit’ the plugin – leave that to the author.

Disclaimer: It has been a while since I used this, but this should get you started.

Go to Admin->UAM->Manage user user groups, and create two Groups, say GroupA and GroupB.

Be sure ‘Read access’ and ‘Write access’ are set to ‘only group users’.

If you want to restrict the Group to specific Roles, check the appropriate boxes and only logged-in viewers with those Roles will be able to access the designated material.

    Save the Groups.

Now edit each user’s profile, scroll to the bottom and assign each one to the proper group(s).

When you create or edit a Page or Post, look in the right sidebar under Access and check the group(s) that should be able to see this article.

Be sure to create a couple of test users so you can check out the behavior of your groups.
