Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I’ve asked on the Google Tag Manager forum and not got a response, I have also tried emailing Google with no joy, so this was the only other place I could think to ask.

I’m currently using this plugin on my site to send data to Google Analytics. However, since GA4 doesn’t show any site speed analytics, I’m trying to set up Google Tag Manager just for that purpose, but I’m not sure how to do it.

I have created an account on GTM and added the code to my site as prompted but that is as far as I have managed to get – some instructions I was following say I need to “have a GA4 configuration tag created in your GTM container” before I can set up the site speed tag, but I’m not sure what this means and I’m worried this will duplicate the data already being sent from this plugin. My question is how can I link GTM to GA4 and send page speed analytics to Google Analytics without duplicating the rest of the data GA4 already captures?

It may be worth noting I have never used tag manager before so it is all new to me and I’m not very confident in using GA4 – I was just about getting to grips with Universal Analytics before it changed, so my knowledge is limited. I have seen tools like Google Pagespeed Insights but I don’t think it’s for me as I need to see analytics from different browsers and average page timings from multiple users, rather than just one user.

I hope this all makes sense! Thank you, and I apologise if this is slightly off topic.

    Hi @thevapourroomltd,

It sounds like you’re on the right track by using Google Tag Manager (GTM) to supplement Google Analytics 4 (GA4). To link GTM to GA4 and send page speed analytics without duplicating data, you’ll need to set up a GA4 configuration tag within your GTM container. This allows GTM to communicate with GA4.

    Here’s a simplified process:

    1. In GTM, create a new tag and select GA4 Configuration.
    2. Enter your GA4 Measurement ID.
    3. Under triggering, select “All Pages”.

This won’t duplicate your data but will allow GTM to send additional data (like site speed) to your GA4.

However, since you mentioned you’re not very confident with GA4 and GTM, you might consider using the WooCommerce Google Analytics Pro extension. It provides more detailed data and integrates with your WooCommerce store, and it’s designed to be user-friendly even for beginners.

I wish I could help more, but hopefully, this gets you going in the right direction to get the job done.

Amazing, thank you so much! I managed to set it up, I think I need to wait 24 hours for the data to show though. Hopefully it will be sorted tomorrow! Thank you for your help.

    Hi @thevapourroomltd,

I’m glad we were able to help! I’ll mark the thread as solved for now, but feel free to open a new one if you have any other questions.

Meanwhile, if it isn’t too much to ask for – would you mind leaving us a review here?

It only takes a couple of minutes but helps us tremendously. It would mean so much to us and would go a really long way.

    Thanks!
