• I have a private blog, that is not indexed, and for internal use within a group, so I have the Blog set to “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” However I want to use the ping service to notfiy and different internal system of changes, is it possible to enable the update service manually, while keeping the blog as private?

Do you mean the pingback commenting scheme? It’s not appropriate to manage update notifications. Pingbacks are only generated for blog posts linked in a post when it is first published. It is unrelated to search engine indexing FWIW.

It would be possible to send some sort of HTTP request somewhere anytime a post is updated. There could be a plugin for this, but I’m not aware of any. This could certainly be custom coded, but it’s always a good idea to do a plugin search before trying to custom code a solution.

The update service is a standard part of WordPress, it sends a ping when a post is published (and I think updated), the option is under writing settings. However it is disabled once you asked for WordPress not to publicise the blog, which makes alot of sense, but just not in my situation.

I had a look at plugin but nothing obvious.

Forgot to add I wrote a very simple plugin to do it (Or a http request which is good enough for me)
