• Perhaps I’m missing something….
I love the fact that since 4.7 when I upload a PDF, WordPress automatically generates a preview image (first page) of the PDF.

I often want to use that image elsewhere on the site (feature image for a post), in an email from the site, or else where.

While I know the file name format, there doesn’t seem to be a way to select this from the media library. Am I missing a setting somewhere – is this a feature to be added or is there a plugin which will add this as well?

Andrew – I had not tried that plugin as I was concerned it would duplicate the functionality already built into WordPress 4.7+

I know I can download the image and then re-upload it, but they it re-generates the various image sizes and so now for every PDF i have like 9 files instead of 5 (PDF + 4 sizes)

I would have thought this would have been a core feature to add a 2nd database entry for the first page of the PDF so it would be in the media manager…. should this post get moved (or reposted) in feature request?
