Using 'pages' to create home page

You can indeed set it as the static front page, and set Blog to be your blog posts page. Call the template that you have made for the home page ‘front-page.php’, and then when you click on home it should display just ‘https://www.mydomain.com’.

arh great thanks…so if I install wordpress using cpanel and fantastico should I install it in https://www.mydomain.com

and then in wordpress dashboard put it into https://www.mydomain.com/blog

Wait? so where is wordpress installed? domain.com or domain.com/blog?

If it’s at /blog you can’t just change settings…. you need to move files

settings -> reading simply tells WP what page to use as the home, but it doesn’t change the base url or anything

Yup, I just wanted to make sure I understood….

There should be no need to change any URL in your dashboard. Doing that would most likely break wordpress
