• Just wondering what the pitfalls of this practice is; querying various pages as content areas on a page. A basic example is using an About page to be a rich content blurb in the sidebar/footer. Another example is having two columns on a page or a Coda slider type layout. Are there any SEO ramifications as each content area also exists as its own page.

Is there a way to query “unpublished” pages? So that the content areas work but the content isn’t duplicated.

I have posted about this in another section which I think was probably the wrong place for such a question.

You could use 'post_status' => 'draft' or 'post_status' => 'private' to use content from “unpublished” pages. However, if these pages in question are not linked from anywhere in the site, how will Google find them? In other words, I think you can pull content from multiple published pages as long as those pages don’t appear on any menus etc.

I’ve had Google find unlinked pages buried in static sites before, plus when using sitemap plugins it can be too onerous to have clients having to add additional exclusions every time they create a page that is a content area.

Yes querying private pages works. Perhaps I can just do it that way. Thanks for reply.
