Using Multiple DB Connections

  • I have recently set up a very very popular blog using wordpress that has been recieving around 8,000+ unique hits a night.

    When we set up the blog we did not expect this much attention. However all this attention is causing a problem, we have the economy package with godaddy.

    This package allows for a maximum of 50 connections to the MYSQL DB at one time. The next option is an upgrade to a very expensive virtual or dedicated server package from them.

    Since the MYSQL DB connections seems to be the only issue with our hosting my question is if is possible to allow for wordpress to use multiple databases, thus increasing our total number of connections available.

    This is just a stab in the dark. Anyone know if I am asking for mythical creatures or if this is realistic.
