Using manualControls feature

Unfortunately that is not possible with this plugin. My recommendation would be to just grab the Flexslider from the URL below and try to create it directly in a template:

By using the options field you can probably use all options the FlexSlider has:

$rotators['homepage'] = array( 'size' => 'homepage-rotator', 'options' => "{slideshowSpeed: 7000, direction: 'vertical'}" );
