I’m just learning php and can see the awesome power off hooks. I’ve checked the plugin file and I don’t see that the footnotes are added to the page using a hook, but are just appended to the page content.

I’m making a page template and it would be awesome if I could determine exactly where I want the footnotes to be placed. At the moment I have some stuff that needs to appear on many pages after the page content but before the footnotes, and I can’t see any way to do that (except by adding it to each page manually, which I’m not going to do).

I want to load the footnotes onto the genesis_after_post_content hook and set its priority, but I can’t currently see any way to do that.

  • Hi oldmankit,

I just stumbled upon your request here.
We’re currently in heavy development of our own footnotes plugin, as a lot of footnotes plugins don’t receive updates or community attention..

Our Plugin works with hooks and you can already customize, if the references should appear at the end of your post, before the footer of your wordpress site or inside a widget. A shortcode for placing the references list anywhere is planned.

Our plugin is compatible with this plugin, as you can set the [ref] shortcode to be used. So you wouldn’t loose all your precious footnotes if you consider switching.

    Hi there Mark,

Thanks very much for mentioning that. I had a try of your plugin and it’s looking very nice. I’m going to stick with simple footnotes since I’ve managed to get it to behave as I want, and have spent some time styling the appearance of it.

One of my bug-bears with simple footnotes was that it inserted a space before the number of the footnote (I’m talking about the link in the text which will send you to the bottom of the page). I had to go into theme files itself to remove this space. I and some other users thought it should be built-in as an option: ‘insert space before numbered link’.

I’m mentioning this because I can see that in your plugin there is both a space before the number and a bracket after, and I couldn’t see any options to remove either!

    Anyway, thanks again.
    Kit
