using header image stops primary navigation floating in IE

I noticed that when I use a header image in my twenty fourteen child theme, the primary navigation stops floating when I scroll down my website in IE11. What can be causing this, it works well in firefox and chrome both with or without a header image. I tried the unedited twenty fourteen theme as well and it has the same issue.
Can anyone help met out with this?
