    Hi!

Initially thinking my client wanted to use EAN-13 numbers for their products I installed your plugin and, pretty much out of the box, everything seemed wonderful.

Soon enough the client remembered they are, in fact, going to be using EAN-14 numbers.

There’s no specific EAN-14 type in the settings for the plugin so I’ve been playing around with the custom type. I expected that the plugin would just stop trying to validate the numbers and would not be able to generate barcodes. That would be fine.

Playing around more with this custom type just now I’m noticing that I can input an obviously invalid EAN-14 number into the EAN field of a product or variation, like “92945sasdadsasdadssd075d19484” for instance, update the post and plugin is still reporting “Valid EAN”.

Is that because with custom EAN types all possibilities are valid? Even numbers with alphanumeric characters in?

Is the only course of action to untick the “Check if valid” option?

For custom EAN type the “Add pattern” option can’t function right?

Aside from validation and barcode registration is there any other issue with running a custom EAN type to handle EAN-14 numbers that we need to consider before committing to this plugin?

    Hi, @madhavaji,

Please update the plugin to the latest v4.7.0 – we’ve added the “EAN-14” type to the plugin. Now the plugin should be able to validate and add an input pattern properly.

As for the “Custom” type – yes, you are correct, all numbers will be considered valid, and there will be no input pattern.

Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

And if you like the plugin, please consider leaving me a rating.
