Using brute force protection with custom login

Hi,
i would like to use the local brute force protection but i am currently using a custom login (generated via wp_login_form()) which doesn’t seem to fire on the hooks the plugin is using. Is there a guide how to implement the interface for the protection to work? Which hooks does the plugin use? I am a bit confused not to have found anything related to this problem so i would be thankful if you could point me to the right direction.
