Using Custom Fields to load a sidebar

I decided to start a new thread on the idea of using custom fields to trigger a certain sidebar (from the widgets section of the admin) to display.

The idea would be using a custom field with a key by the name of “sidebar” and then the value being “sidebar name” (the name of the sidebar).

So let’s say I’ve got four sidebars with the names “sidebar 1”, “sidebar 2”, “sidebar 3” and “sidebar 4”. I would like to be able to just create a new custom field and display one or more of the sidebars. I mean, I could just create a bunch of different templates, but I’d like more flexibility.

I know this is possible, but I am not a php pro. Or maybe there’s a better way? I would just like to be able to
