Hi, I’m about to setup a medicinal plants database using wordpress and I’m looking for plugins to make my life easier. I need custom posts, taxonomies and be able to search/filter but I’m not selling anything, do you think this plugin would be suitable?

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi David, can you give me an example of what you are trying to achieve and I will let you know if this plugin will work for you.

    Thank you

Hi, thanks for your quick reply.
Many (many) years ago I developed a Medicinal Plants Database for a local hospital using Microsoft Access, they’re still using it and recently asked me if I could create a website for the database, so here I am.
In my travels over the web researching I came into contact with Magnus Strand from Sweden, he’s created a plant database website and this page is an example of what I’d like to do with the Catablog plugin, I don’t understand Swedish either but I understand from him that the dropdown boxes in the left column provide all the taxonomies to search by – I may want to change this to multiple selections from one list – so I’d be very interested to know if you think I could build something similar with this plugin.
I have some experience using WordPress, html and css, but my php coding skills are weak, so I’m looking for a solution that requires minimum coding.
Another WordPress plugin I’m looking at is WP Catalogue
Any comments or suggestions you have regarding the Catablog plugin or any other plugins or themes is much appreciated.

    Thanks
    David

Hi David, you could design something similar to what the URL you shared above has. But it would not be the same though.

Let me know if you need more information.

Hi, forgot to mention that the column on the left with dropdown boxes was created using the beautiful taxonomy filters plugin, so if I used that plugin and CataBlog would that enable me to do what I want? What can’t I do using CataBlog?

    Thanks for your help
    David

Hi David, I did a very basic test with the plugin you mentioned above and it does work with CataBlog. However this is only a very basic test. I don’t see any reason why it would not work in the manner you explained above. I guess it might be worth your time to test both plugins and see if they work in the way you want them to work.

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.
One last question before I dive in, I read somewhere in the documentation that I can’t create a catalog entry without an image, is that correct?

    Thanks
    David

Hi David, yes that is correct. The plugin is designed to work with images and photos. It also has the ability to sell an image, product and photos.

If you need more help please let me know.

If you don’t need any more help with this support thread can you mark it as resolved.

One more favor can you rate this plugin, that would help the developer.

    Kind regards

    Enjoy the plugin ??
