Using blog feed as announcements/news feed

I have searched the web high and low and cannot find an answer… I am using Twenty Ten, and I would like for the home page to be two (or three) columns. So, the left (main) column should be the newsfeed (e.g., blog posts), and I’d like to embed my organization’s mission statement, a newsletter subscriber box, and a small picture slideshow in the right column. My central question is on the newsfeed topic, e.g., how to ‘insert’ blog posts into a page perhaps. Is this super complicated? There must be a simple way? Thanks so much.
