Using Autonav on a Subdomain

    Is it possible to write the autonav shortcode on a subdomain in order to list all posts in a category in the primary domain? The posts will be hosted on the primary domain but listed in the subdomain via the shortcode.

    Normally, you would have two completely separate installations of WordPress, using two different databases… in which case there is no reasonable way to do this. You could install the subdomain’s WP into the same SQL database with a different table prefix, of course; but still, the WP core doesn’t really support accessing one from the other. Or you could be using the “MU” multiple user ‘family of blogs’ ability of WP; still, AutoNav doesn’t really know much about that. It’s not impossible of course, but it would take some custom coding.     It sounds very complicated. Maybe RSS will be easier.

    BTW, if I used a subdirectory instead of a subdomain will this be easier?

    No difference. The difficulty is: Each copy of WordPress only sees the MySQL database for itself. It sounds like you want to access a whole other MySQL database which a different copy of WordPress uses. Or do you just mean, another one of the “network of blogs” that you can create since WordPress 3.0? You may contact me by email if there’s more of a question than we can answer here.
