Using automatic and manual load together

I don’t know if this is already possible, but at least I couldn’t find any info on this subject.

So my goal is simple: use auto load for X number of posts and after that switch to manual loading for the rest of the posts.

I could for example set the number of auto loaded posts to 10, which means that after the user has scrolled down to see those 10 posts, auto load is disabled and a “load more” -button appears after the last loaded article.

In my experience this is good usability, as the user might want to actually reach the footer of the page (or any other content there might be). I know that I could just use the manual load alone, but there are clients (bless them) who insist on having things happen automatically (and then they wonder why they can’t see the footer…).
