Using an offsite URL as post thumbnail

  • I recently encountered an issue while attempting to set a post thumbnail via an offsite URL.
    usually i would just upload the image directly into the “media” section, but in order to save some room i decided to re-upload all the images into an image hosting site (imageshack).

    when i tried to set the post thumbnail (via the featured image section) from a URL address, wordpress won’t offer me the option of setting the image as a post thumbnail, and it only allows me to use it as an in-post image.

    i also added an image to clarify what’s wrong (in my preception):
