I want to block all non-logged-in users from reading all content.

Have followed website documentation that seems out-dated, but anyone with a URL is able to access all content.

Thank you for pointing out that FAQ. Yes, it is outdated as negated conditions have been deprecated.

    To do what you want:

    1. Create a new Access Level (A) and add Special Pages: 404 to the conditions. Under the Members tab, sync the level with Non-logged in users, and under the Options tab select Default Access: Restricted content only
    2. Create another Access Level (B). Under the Members tab, sync the level with Logged-in users, and under the Options tab select Extend Level: A.

This should ensure that members of level A can only access the 404 page, while members of level B can access all content restricted by level A, as well as all other unrestricted content.

Thank you for your response and the time it took you to write it.

Your directions worked perfectly, and i would recommend adding them to the documentation as a basic instruction that many people want/need to do with their wordpress sites.
