Users newly unable to edit one page on site

  • I have two user accounts which are not able to edit one of the pages on their 70-page site. As admin I can get to the page and edit it, but they cannot, although they could only a couple of weeks ago. It is not a new page. They can access and edit the other pages.

    I tried it logged in as them and got the same result they did… even in IE, Firefox & Chrome.

    What appears when they try to edit that page is a browser page showing what is below:

    Session expired

    Please log in again. The login page will open in a new window. After logging in you can close it and return to this page.

  • The relevant error seems to be “Session expired.” It’s likely that your users are having issues with their login cookies for your site, and/or they are using a browser that is in “private” mode, blocking those cookies.

    You might have them clear out the cookies related to your WordPress site and try again. If that doesn’t work, have them try a different computer/browser to see if the problem continues.

    As mentioned, it is not just the users… I experience the same problem when I log in with their credentials on my own computer. It also happens using any of the browsers I noted earlier.

    Sorry, I missed the part where you had the same issue in other browsers.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.
