User's IP addresses needed? Conflict with data privacy law in Germany

Hi, for what do you need and store the subscriber’s IP addresses in the wordpress database?
Are those needed or can I delete or anonymize them in the database?Storing IP addresses is heavyly restricted / forbidden by German data privacy law.
