Users getting administrator status in my site by default

Hi! Any user registering to my site this week was having full administrator role.
In settings there is an option “new default user role”, it changed by itself to “administrator” and every new user who was registering had administrator role.
I already switched it to “subscriber”

Thats very dangerous as anybody could steal my website.
Any idea why this happened? I didnt change it myself. How can i prevent it?
