Users cannot change password

Users are getting a message when attempting to change password inside their profile “Your current password is incorrect.” On the Change Password page, once the old password is entered, then new password is entered and confirmed and the user clicks Change Password, that message keeps popping up, and nothing happens, preventing password changes. Any idea what’s causing this?
It also seems the password reset option at login is no longer functioning or sending a new password to users. We’re using the PMPro Login page and the reset link is /?action=reset_pass When entering a user’s username or email address, the page refreshes to /?errors=no_password_reset&action=reset_pass and no email is sent. I’ve seen other PMPro users reporting this same issue and are told to use the WordPress default but that is not an option for us. We use the widely known WP Mail SMTP plugin and all other site emails are sending just fine, so it’s baffling what’s causing this because it was working a few short months ago before a couple version updates back.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
