Usernames

  • Hello. I have a question on how this issue is solved: phpBB allows many special characters in usernames that are not allowed in wordpress.

    I have installed the bridge successfully but when a user logs in with an account that has specialchars in it’s username the username created in wordpress will be without the specialchars. Is there a connection made between the accounts in WP and phpBB? I dont see that, so i’m interested if the system will crash at some point?

    I know it’s possible to disable sanitize_user() in WP but i’m not sure if this is a secure method.

  • you can also do this in phpbb under: User registration settings

    Limit username chars:
    Restrict type of characters that may be used in usernames, spacers are: space, -, +, _, [ and ].
