Username not postname

I have changed my username in the php database but my blog posts still says by: old username. How come? It says the correct user name in the WP admin, but on the web pages it doesn’t.

I’m correcting myself here because I finally discovered that I can put a name in “Display name publicly as” in the profile set up. I chose to not delete this question in case someone else had the same Q.
