Username is already registered

  • I get the following error:

    ERROR: This username is already registered. Please choose another one.

    This is not the case. I deleted the same user and entered it again when I got this error. This username does not appear as a user in wordpress admin page nor does it appear in the users table in the backend. What is the plug-in checking to come up with this error? I even tried clearing the browser cache.

  • A random thought: could it be that the email is already in use? If not, it’s possible to debug the cause by looking into the plugin’s files that output the error message you get and to see which if clauses are evaluated before that.
