I can’t figure out what is the notification that is used to send the user his username and password.

I can send password with the “New User Registration (User)” and i can send the username with the “New User – Welcome mail” but i can’t seem to add both username and password to the same mail…

Would appreciate your help very much!

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
    Thanks for your message.

You’re right in that at present, you cannot use both in a notification.
I’m going to mark this thread as an improvement. Both the Welcome email and the New User Registration – For User are transactional so there’s no harm in adding the new user’s password to each one as only they will see it.

I’ll leave this thread open until a fix is implemented.

Can you estimate? i just want to know if to keep using the plugin for the current site i’m building or to use some functions add-ons instead…

    Thanks!

Should be next release. Maybe 1-month? But can’t give specifics i’m afraid.

    Hi Begin,

I’ve investigated this thoroughly and unfortunately, due to a restriction in WordPress, it’s not possible to insert the password into any other notification apart from the two that it is already available in. After this, it’s encrypted in the database and can’t be retrieved again.

    Thanks for your query.

I’ve just run into this as well (password shortcode not working in Welcome email). And I’ve noticed that the plain WP welcome email is still going out to new users, with the password.

Is there no way at all to customize that default WP email? Can I predefine wp_new_user_notification somewhere?

    Thanks,
    Korinthe

    Hi Korinthe,

Due to a restriction in WordPress, the only two emails that can use the password shortcode are Lost Password (For User) and New User Registration (For User).

If you need help with shortcodes to see what is available for what notifications, there’s a long and handy list on my website here.

    Hope this helps,
    Jack

    Thanks for your quick response.
I’ve found a different plugin that does customize the default WP email and does include the plaintext password. “Custom User Emails”.

    Hi Korinthe,

Better Notifications for WordPress does what you want and more!
My plugin will allow you to customise *all* of the default WordPress emails as well as a lot more notifications that the plugin adds.
The ‘Welcome’ email that is referred to above is different to the emails that you are referring to.

I think the two notifications in Better Notifications for WordPress that you’re looking for are called ‘New User Registration – For User’ and ‘Lost Password – For User’.

    Hope this helps,
    Jack

    Hello,
I am unsure if I understand:-( I would like to send an “New User Registration – for user” with the contents
Login URL: [login_url], Username: [Shortcode?], Password: [password].
I don’t find the proper Shortcode.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi cadett,

The ‘New User Registration – For User’ notification currently only allows the [login_url] and [password] shortcodes at present. The next version of the plugin will allow you to use all of the user shortcodes as well.

    Hope this helps.
    Jack
