User select to show product images that is not part of variations

    This is an issue I’ve been running into again and again and am looking for a solution – it would be well worth the cost of almost any premium plugin.

    We will have products such that different options would show a different product thumbnail – for example with the link to the page above – coffee – flavored coffee’s have different packages. However, also like in the page above, there are 130 flavors, 3 different sized bags, and 6 different grinds. It seems standard that in order to show different thumbnails we have to add the images to variations (which is what most plugins seem to offer to do.) This means a LOT of variations.

    I’m looking for some plugin or solution where the user could select the type and it change the thumbnail but not have to be part of the variations – is there anything like this – I have scoured Google and come back empty handed.

    Hey there!

    This sounds like something that would require some custom code to get exactly how you are describing, but Product Add-ons can get you most of the way there.

    If you want, you can set up the sizes and grinds as variations, and then the flavors as add-ons. This will reduce your variation amount significantly, and give you the flexibility of variation and changing the product image like you are wanting. (since the flavor wouldn’t change the product image, I wouldn’t think).
