• I’m in a wordpress multisite environment. When I’m on a subsite as super admin and I switch to a user that is an “Editor”, I still maintain Super Admin capabilities, and see all the Super Admin menu options in dashboard, unlike if I manually login as a user that is an “Editor”. Is this normal? Is there a way to switch to a user with lower permissions and have exact capabilities said user would have per the roles they’ve been granted per their user role assignment?

    Thanks for the message.

No this is not normal behaviour and I suspect it’s being caused by something else on your site, for example a caching plugin or a plugin that deals with user roles or capabilities.

User Switching usually works exactly as you’re expecting it to, by logging you in as that user.

Your best bet is to try deactivating the other plugins on your site one by one to see if you can identify the culprit.

You may also want to check the dropins in the wp-content directory, for example sunrise.php and object-cache.php. These could interfere.

There’s a chance that your theme could interfere too, although unlikely, so try switching to a default theme such as Twenty Nineteen if necessary.
