Within the settings for Mdocs there is a place to set permissions for Allowed to Upload, and Private File Post Viewing. I have these both set to Editor and Contributor. I have users that are Editors that need the ability to do Manage File – I guess this is only an admin function – and by ‘admin’ I mean the core WP user role called “administrator”. I am also using a plugin called User Role Editor, If I create a custom User Role in there with the word “Administrator” in it, would it get Mdocs admin permissions?

Ultimately – I want users that can fully manage Mdocs, but not have full WP Admin perms.

Is there a better way to handle this?

    Thanks!

Mdocs bases it admin right of WordPress’s core permission which is ‘manage_options’. This means if a role as this ability mdocs will allow that role type access to the admin area of mdocs. Unfortunately this will also give that role type admin access to everything else.

So the answer to your question is no you can’t create a user role that will only allow access to mdocs but not the other WP areas.

I will add a feature request for this issue, but will have to think of a nice way to implement it without losing security.

That would be awesome! Thanks for considering it. I am using it for a school. They have things like lunch menus and such that need to be updated on a monthly basis, and it would be nice for the staff that creates that to be able to update the doc that is attached to that doc record. That particular MDOC record is linked on a lunch page – so it’s better if they can just updated the existing doc record, and not have to create a new one, because that would break the link on the lunch page.

I thought it might help to have a more full use case. Here is the page for reference: https://www.ccak12.net/lunch-information/ The docs are linked in the sidebar.

    Thanks a lot!
