This is a new install of WordPress with plugins installed (listed below), but absolutely no users besides myself.

Prior to my reinstall of my forums, this particular plugin seemed to be working fine, but today only the core options seem to be saving.

I’ve made several new roles, artisan, councilman, etc. (it’s a guild site, hence the weird names), and I set up all of their permissions, hit update and it says that it has successfully updated, but when I go back to the same role a minute later, none of the options have saved. If I only choose the core options, those will save.

    Please advise.

    Thank you in advance!

So, after doing a lot of looking around, my understanding is that bbPress changed their code or something and so you can no longer edit bbPress functions with this particular plugin. I’m not sure if that’s accurate, so I’m leaving this as unresolved until I have confirmation.

I confirm, there is no sense to edit bbPress roles with User Role Editor. URE saves roles data at the same place as WordPress itself does – at the database. bbPress creates its roles dynamically (on the fly through the code) for every page request.
For this reason I filter out bbPress specific roles and capabilities (except directly related to the custom post types) and exclude them from processing by URE.

Though I agree, that the subject needs update. Probably excluding bbPress own roles, I should not exclude bbPress created capabilities from the URE’s scope.

Happily I managed to learn a bit of PHP this morning and made the user roles for BuddyPress/bbPress that I needed.

I would agree with you however, if it was at all possible to hide the bbPress capabilities from your particular plugin, it would be a great idea for those of us (like myself) who have no idea that they aren’t really able to be edited/modified there.

Otherwise, your plugin is fantastic and all I have for you is major thanks for creating it and for replying to me. I appreciate it immensely! ??

    Hello Vladimir,

is there any update on how to add/restrict permissions to certain user-roles related to bbpress?
In detail I need a certain role to create forums.
Right now the administrator has to “re-publish” these forum again to make them visible in the frontend.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: @alice + Vladimir – thanks for sharing knowledge about this issue.
