User Role Changed Automation

I am automatically changing the user’s role after clicking a link in their confirmation e-mail. My database update line changes their role (mety_key -> wp_capabilities db line) from unverified to free.

The BNFW User Role Changed rule does not seem to be recognising it. Should I use some specific function?

When I manually change the role at /wp-admin/users.php, it works perfectly but I need it automated.
