Hi, I’m a bit of a newbie to WordPress and there are a few concepts I don’t understand. One being User Registrations. Tonight I got an email stating that someone unknown to me had registered as a new user on my site. Why would I accept this? What does it allow people to do> What is the benefit of this facility? And what are the downsides?

If you have content that can only be accessed by logged in users (like forums or BuddyPress or what have you) then you should use it.

If not, don’t bother and turn registrations off (it’s in wp-admin general settings)

Ipstenu, thanks for the response and thanks for clearing that up. Understand it now. Cheers
