• Hi,
I am a web designer that builds company sites. I have a WordPress network on domain.com which is my website. I have a subdomain called subdomain.domain.com which is mapped to subdomain.com. Subdomain.com is a client website that I built. When a user visits subdomain.com and registers, they are redirected to domain.com to register. However, this is not desired. I want the user to register on subdomain.com not domain.com. I have read the forums and I see that the user registering on domain.com is default. However it is very confusing for users. Should I chuck the network and go back to installing WP on each domain? It seems that the Network although good in theory in practice may not be suitable for a web designer like me who builds company sites that are not related to each other. For me the network is good as it is easy to manage a lot of sites. However, the registration issue is a real deal breaker and for people like me is no good at all. Can anyone help?

Don’t post in all caps, man. It’s shouting ??

You can create per-site registration pages if you want. You need to make a custom page template with the code from the signup page in it.

Thanks, I’ll give that a go.

Regarding the ‘shouting’ are you referring to the ‘WP’? As I was using an acnorosm for Word Press it is correct grammar to use capital letters. Should I appologise for using correct english? Are you advocating the use of bad grammar so that forum rules are not broken? I think people can use slang and text speak if they choose to but if one chooses to use proper English one should not be chastised for it.

    Hi,

This works…nearly. I have created a custom wp-signup.php page and added it to the root of the theme folder. I edited the htaccess file on the root of the main site and edited the wp-signup page in the theme root. When a user registers on the mapped subdomain they now go to the signup page on the subdomain but there is a 404 error. Before, the user went to the signup page on the main site so this is progress. Why is the 404 error happening?

Your post title, before I edited it, was “USER REGISTRATION ON MAPPED SUBSITE” – That is shouting. Don’t do it ??

When a user registers on the mapped subdomain they now go to the signup page on the subdomain but there is a 404 error.

Did you make the page on your mapped site? So it’s seconddomain.com/signup/ or something and verify the page works?
