User photos linked to Gravatar. Another way?

Hi — I work at a nonprofit organization. Our blog is WordPress but was designed for us by external developers. You can see the blog here: https://www.buildingmarkets.org/blogs When a user is created their photo is linked to gravatar.com. Is there a way for us to be able to upload photos for users directly into WordPress rather than going through Gravatar? I was told there wasn’t, but I just can’t believe it! Is it based on the theme we are using? Thanks!
