• We have a “members only” section that we’re using UM for. Users register and gain access to the “members only” section. Upon registration, they are redirected to the edit profile page, complete their info and save. From here though there is no navigation in the profile header (or anywhere) that tells them how to get back to the “home” page of the members only section.

The same problem happens for anyone logged in who goes to view user profiles. The page is full-width, so there’s no sidebar to put navigation in. Would like to have some way in the profile header to include a “return to members only home” or something.

On the other pages, we got around this by using the website’s Breadcrumbs, but with profile pages, the page CANNOT be a child page, so the breadcrumb is simply Home >> User (with “home” being the website home page, not the members only home).

Can anyone tell me if they’ve found a good method of navigation within member pages, or might this be a feature that can be added? I’d suggest top right of the member page wrapper, or even to the left of the Gear icon in the profile header would be fine maybe.

    Hi @the_webscaper,

Have you tried adding the link to your Home page as a menu item?
You can change the visibility of the menu items on the role basis in Appearance -> Menus.

    Regards.

    Hi,
Well yes, we do have that, at the very top of the site in a secondary menu, and yes, technically, that does work, but it’s just meant to be the portal into the section, not a navigation menu, since it’s pinned to the top of the site. It does not make any sense to have to use that “portal” link as navigation when every other page in the members-only section has navigation.

I guess just take my situation as a feature request, then, so if I may explain further my use case for consideration. I don’t want to provide screenshots in a public forum to private pages, but maybe this will help:

Public site is for everyone, and that’s what the primary menu on the site is for. Members click a Log In link in a secondary menu (pinned to the top of the site) to access the Members-Only section. That’s essentially the portal in.
Once inside, all of the other pages have both breadcrumbs to go back, and on non-full-width pages, a sidebar menu with all of the pages to the members-only section. The breadcrumbs are especially helpful on the few full-width pages we have where there is no sidebar menu.

However, the User/Profile pages can’t be child pages, and therefore the breadcrumbs don’t work, and doing a non-full width layout would not look nearly as nice as the full-width.

Making things worse, users are dumped into Edit Profile upon registration, before they’ve even seen the full interior navigation of this section, so they complete their profile, hit Save – and have NO IDEA where they are supposed to go, because there is no navigation anywhere.

So, I realize this isn’t something built in, and it’s not a bug or anything, I’m
just suggesting perhaps a feature in an update that adds a button somewhere in the profile header (above, or next to the settings icon) that returns the user back to the main members only page (which can be set in the back end).

    Thanks for your time ??

PS, I do want to add – this is my first time using Ultimate Member. I’ve used numerous other member plugins, as most of my client sites are nonprofits, and many need member back ends like this. I am overall VERY, VERY happy with this plugin. It is by far the easiest to set up, and out of the box, the styling is fantastic. There are a couple of features I wish were in here but the trade off for the simplicity and aesthetics, and the awesome directory – I will absolutely be using this plugin on client sites in the future. ??

    Hi @the_webscaper,

    Thanks for your suggestions.
You can try to add the home page link to the profile menu.
