I am new to wordpress and I seem to not understand how I can let others login to my wordpress blog without them having access to my admin page. How I let them goto my blog and register to comment on my blog page. When I login I have but one page, the index.php. Is there another page to this that is just for others to register? What am I missing.

First make sure that the Membership – “Anyone can register” box is checked in your General Settings. A “register” link should then appear in your sidebar, as well as at the bottom of the login page.

Normal users, or “subscribers” don’t have access to any admin functions. They can see parts of the dashboard, but they cannot perform administrative tasks.

If your default users are all subscribers, and they only login to post comments, and you want to keep them from seeing any of the dashboard area, then this plugin should do the trick for you. It removes all of the dashboard access to subscriber level members except for their own profile settings.

    WP Hide Dashboard

[edit] This works great when used along with Peter’s Login Redirect plugin. You can send subscribers right back to the front page instead of their profile after they log in.

Thanks Clayton, I uploaded the plugin and its work great. I appreciate the advise.

    You’re welcome!

    Clayton,

I am still confused. I have added a plugin (Subscribe2) for people who want blog updates, but I think that is different from becoming a subscriber to the site. Is that right?

How do I invite people to become a subscriber to the site?

I want to create a members area, and I know that plugins (members only menu plugin and peter’s login redirect plugin) will be useful for that, but I am not sure what happens before the plugins bit. Do I need to use the meta widget in the sidebar… or something else?

Sorry about this. I am sure I sound very confused.
