User level access control

    I know I am just skipping over this topic somewhere in DOCs, but I just can’t seem to find it. What is the difference (most notably security access) between Contributor, Editor, and Author?

    Also, what I would like to do is assign access rights individually to individual pages but not all pages, is this possible in the default or via some add on at all? Is it even worth trying to do or is it a headache since I don’t see the obvious tools to do so.
