• Hi all,

I downloaded the latest version of WordPress this evening and installed it on my server – it all went without a glitch as the instructions were pretty self-explanitory and I have had previous database expereice before.

However, I have a problem. I have a user-front end, but as soon as I go to the WordPress login screen and attempt to login, it just goes to a blank screen (/blog/wp-login.php is where is stops dead)..

I have a user-front end that works as it should, but it just will not let me log in – and I have confirmed I am using the correct login details. I am running on a Linux server, and WordPress is running in a folder. It is properly connected up to the necessary database. I have tried everything – even re-downloading WordPress and installing from scratch ??

If anybody could please explain why I am getting this white screen on login, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you very much guys.

  • I’m having the exact same problem to the letter. It’s a fresh installation here: blog.megamistudios.com. User end works and the login page is up, but when I attempt to login it opens to a blank page. The actual wp-admin/index.php only displays “???” at the top of an otherwise blank page. I also seem to be having the same problem with adding a comment: after adding a comment, it opens into a blank page.

I’ve been hunting the archives here and attempting every solution I can find, but none of them has worked. It’s aggravating because I’ve never had problems installing WP before.

I think I may have tracked this down. It appears to have something to do with whether you have PHP 4 or 5 installed.

Following the instructions here to the letter:

    https://michaeldoig.net/4/installing-mamp-and-wordpress.htm

I got this to work fine.

When I tried to follow different directions (although also quite good):

    https://www.bleikamp.com/2006/11/16/wordpress-on-a-mac/

I got the white screen of death. The only difference in the installation was choosing PHP 4 or 5 (you have to choose 4 as of this writing).

I am having this problem also. It’s very frustrating.

mgoitein, I’m not sure how the instructions you posted for installing MAMP (which as I understand it is a program for running SQL & PHP locally on a Mac) has anything to do with this? Am I missing something?

Anyone else found a solution that works?
