User Agent detection incorrect while tethered to iphone

  • I’m connecting to my iphone hotspot from my desktop using USB connection. I open Chrome and login. I notice warning message that Safari is outdated. I also preview website and notice that responsive seems to be detecting a mobile viewport. I inspect with Chrome and don’t see a value for user agent in style sheet output. I’m doing all this from Chrome on a Windows 10 desktop. I’m trying to determine if this is a theme issue of user agent usage or a limitation of wordpress user agent functionality in this scenario.

  • I’ve been using my Linux laptop through my Android hotspot for over two years, and never had this problem. But I don’t use the connection through a USB (although I happen to have it plugged in right now).
    I don’t see how the desktop browser would not be seen correctly. It doesn’t seem possible that iOS would be changing anything sent on the connection.
