User accounts
-
Two problems:
1) I find the way that user accounts are used slightly confusing. It seems that nobody can comment using an account, so every comment is anonymous in that you don’t post under an alias assigned only to you but just one that you type in the box. Even the author (me) can’t post using a user account, which seems slightly strange as it leaves a big opportunity for impersonation. Maybe this is the desired behaviour, or maybe I’m doing something wrong? Also, the cookies remember the values you enter into the comment form, but if you make “Name” and “E-Mail” required fields through the WordPress interface, then suddenly the cookie remembering function doesn’t work any more. Or at least this was what happened with WP 1.2 (read on).
2) I upgraded to WP 1.2.1 last night, with quite a bit of difficulty. I ended up having to change the MD5 of my password through PHPMyAdmin in order to actually be able to login to the admin interface. Anyway, it’s working now, but with one problem. Now, even if I have the cookies set, I never see the “Edit Post” links, and also the remembering of comment form data (mentioned above) no longer works, regardless of validation preferences. I know that the cookies are set, because when I click “Login”, I don’t have to enter my details, it just logs me straight in.
Thanks for any help,
Turnip
