Use Updraft db backup to recover database

I have been using Updraft successfully for years and have a problem I never imagined I’d have. The servers on which my site is hosted have had a catastrophic hardware failure that has impacted their ability to restore their drives. I need to recover my database as a SQL file from the Updraft backups (luckily, I have one of just the database that was made on 3/7). As the site is still down, I cannot use Updraft to do this. I have extracted the *.gz file but am unsure what that did for me. Is it the SQL file of the database? If not what else can I do?
